ABOUT OUR ENSEMBLE

Authentic Theatre Ensemble is a community repertory company committed to bringing diverse traditions of theatre to the Central Wisconsin community along with arts-based community engagement and educational opportunities.

THE Theatre is committed to diverse traditions of theatre and using the Fine Arts to their fullest extent as a means of encouraging social dialog. Inspired by social change theatre theorists, THE Theatre recognizes the role theatre plays shedding light on uncomfortable truths and enhancing communication and understanding in communities.
The specific objectives and purpose of this organization are:

  1. To provide performances and/or performing opportunities for all people regardless of race, creed, or religion focusing on creating a safe and nurturing atmosphere for: BIPOC and LGBTQ communities, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and neurodivergent populations;

  2. To provide educational opportunities to youth and adult communities;

  3. To provide diverse and worldly theatre genre performances;  

  4. To provide community engagement with events and activities that are free to the public

We currently perform out of other people's venues with the hope to raise enough money to find a space of our own which will allow for even more productions, events, and cool-ass theatre. You can help by donating to our non-profit!

THEATRE IN ACTION

Martha Bawara

Artistic Director and Founder

Martha returned to Central Wisconsin in 2017 after nearly 20 years. Her experience in theatre includes having served as Director of Theatre Arts and Technical Theatre at the nation's largest international school, Awty International, gaining certification as an International Baccelaureate Theatre Arts Educator with additional certification including emphasis in: Musical Theatre, Devising Theatre, Documentary Theatre, Theatre in Unconventional Spaces, and Acting Technique.  

While in Texas, Martha also served as musical director and lead ensemble vocalist with AWJ Productions, a premier gospel production company performing in and around the Houston area.  Before then she performed and worked as musical director with local South Florida theatre companies. Her directing and educational career began at North Broward Preparatory School in Boca Raton.
Returning to Wisconsin, she led the Wisconsin Rapids Community Theatre as their Artistic Director for two years until choosing to start Authentic Theatre Ensemble. 

Martha is a Mid-State Technical College instructor leading courses in Acting Technique, Set Design, and Directing. 

Originally from Milwaukee, WI, Martha has been working professionally in the arts since childhood and is an accomplished actress and singer, currently the featured vocalist with River Cities Jazz.
